Das ist das vielleicht schönste, was ich seit langem gesehen habe. Wirklich.
A thin liquid film (a.k.a. soap bubble) is contacted with a cold rod which drives the convection. The temperature of the rod is -169 °C (104 K). The temperature gradient creates motion in the film. The high stretching rates lead to the collapse to Newton Black Film (Thickness of 10 nm – black spots). These spots are convected in the flow and lead to the exponential conversion of the thick transient soap film to its equilibrium phase (black).
The black phase does not indicate a rupture or hole in the film. It is just transparent to visible light.
Video is in slow motion (0.25x).
