Freunde des gepflegten Dubs, Mad Professor hat mal eben ohne jeglichen weiteren Infos 15 Dub-Nummern auf Bandcamp geladen. Und Dub geht ja eigentlich immer.
Es gab diese Zeit, in der ich total in den Sound von Phaeleh verliebt war und die hielt sich auch eine ganze weile. Dann hat er sich im Ambient verloren, was ich immer noch geil fand, aber halt nicht mehr ganz so geil, wie seine Beats und Bässe über der von ihm geschaffenen Atmo zu haben.
Heute hat er ein Album rausgehauen, das von ihm bisher unveröffentlichte Track aus den Jahren 2008 bis 2017 bündelt. Und da weiß ich doch gleich wieder, warum es diese Zeit gab, in der ich total in den Sound von Phaeleh verliebt war. Auch heute noch ganz schön gut.
Es gab Zeiten, in denen habe ich mich hier immer abgemeldet, wenn ich in den Urlaub fuhr. Habe ich dieses Mal nicht gemacht, auch weil ich nicht wusste, ob mir in diesem dann nich doch nach bloggen ist. War die letzte Woche dann nicht so. Ein paar Tage bei lieben Menschen in Amsterdam verbracht, die westfriesischen Inseln vom Festland aus betrachtet, am Airport Hannover übernachtet, der aktuell ob Corona irgendwie postapokalyptisch wirkt. Vor 14 Tagen noch fix eine Rippe angebrochen, was mich seitdem bis gestern nicht mit dem Rad fahren ließ. Geht jetzt aber auch wieder. Nun noch eine Woche arbeitsfrei vor mich hinpuzzlen, schlafen, essen, trinken, Rad fahren, leben eben. Und hier so den Staub der letzten Woche rausfeudeln und den Schuppen langsam aber stetig wieder hochfahren. Merkte mal wieder, dass ohne Blog auch ganz schön ist, aber auf Dauer muss das ja nicht sein. Das machen ja genug andere so, nech.
Aber, und das ist viel wichtiger, als wir gestern mit dem Bulli zurückkamen, rutschte mir das Anfang Juli neu veröffentlichte Album von Stefan aka The Micronaut in die News-Playlist und, et voilà, es ist so großartig, wie ich es ungehört erwartet habe. Ich mag diesen eigenständigen Sound, der viele Querverweise auf verschiedene Genres mitbringt und diese auf ganz individuelle Weise neu verbindet. Ein durchweg großartiges Listening-Album, das hier seit gestern in Heavy Rotation läuft.

Long-time Bristol innovator Phaeleh is back with more of his genre-blurring sounds, once again on his own Undertow label.
Since his debut release in 2008, Phaeleh aka Matt Preston has developed an inimitable style of cinematic electronic music, which floats between the shifting tempos and timbres of dubstep, garage, electronica and house music. Phaeleh’s large catalogue of epic releases have cemented his position as one of the most exciting and consistent producers to emerge from his current hometown, Bristol. Phaeleh has a busy touring schedule seeing him DJ and playing live all over Europe and North America in addition to releasing various long players and singles on his Undertow imprint.
Ich habe mich neulich erst gefragt, wie lange wohl das letzte Album des großartigen Stumbleine her sei. Ich sah dann nach und stellte fest: vier Jahre. Ich dachte, dass es dann ja fast mal an der Zeit für eine neue Platte von ihm wäre. Und just gestern kam die Ankündigung, dass er Morgen bei Monotreme Records seines neues Album Sink Into The Ether veröffentlichen wird. Wie der Stream verrät ist er seinem einzigartigem Sound treu geblieben. Mir fällt nichts wirklich vergleichbares ein. Irgendwo zwischen LoFi, Shoegaze und Bass landet er immer zwischen den stilistischen Zeilen. Wieder ein ganz wunderbares Album, das auf 500 Vinyl limitiert ist.
The album envelops the listener from the outset with the soft, pitched sway of “Sonder”. The track ebbs through calming shadows, showcasing Stumbleine’s warm, electronic glow and gamut of influences, with hushed hypnotic delayed sounds, vocal samples and snappy beats.
Stumbleine’s skill at blending an array of electronic timbres washes over the largely instrumental record, exemplified in “Supermodels”, with its lo-fi chorus-drenched haze building to an emotional, percussion-driven climax. Here, and scattered about the album, RnB vocals are chopped-up, but glistening a dark, dreamy hue.
A cover of the Hole song, “Malibu” features Elizabeth Heaton of Midas Fall. Her delicate, dream-like vocals waft over the hazy instrumental waves like tendrils of smoke, as they both grow ever more desperate, and slowly crash.
Elsewhere on the album tracks like ‘Lost To The World’ come together more immediately with flourishing synths and soaring backdrops overlaid by a heady bass and intricate beats, while ‘White Noise Therapy’ invokes a cinematic Tokyo-set film score peppered with playful soft pianos.

Conceived of just before Nils broke his thumb and composed the similarly intimate solo piano album Screws, Empty is a soothing vessel of eight simple and serene pieces originally recorded as the music to a short art film he shot with his friend and film director Benoit Toulemonde. Drifting through emotions from the stark and sobering opener First Defeat, to the gently euphoric No Step On Wing and the contemplative but hopeful closer Black Notes, with its poignant minute of silence, Empty is a comforting score for these turbulent times.

Ich bin neulich mal wieder über den Yagya-Mix gestolpert, den ich vor neun Jahren mal gemacht hatte und habe den mehrfach beim Radfahren gehört. Dubtechno, wie nur einer den zu machen vermag: Yagya eben. Der hat seit heute ein neues Album in der Pipeline, das zeigt, dass sein Sound auch ein bisschen wandelbar funktioniert, wenn er ihn mit organischen Streichern und Saxofon kombiniert. Und dann immer noch die akustische Handschrift von Aðalsteinn Guðmundsson aka Yagya trägt. Schön.

Der Großartige Tycho hat letzten Freitag sein neues Album „Simulcast“ veröffentlicht. Es klingt wie immer wie nur Tycho klingt, der seinem ganz eigenen Sound treu bleibt. Es gibt also keine Überraschungen, was auch verdammt großartig ist. Denn wer will schon, dass Tycho nicht mehr nach Tycho klingt.
