Ein Schritt zum Wollmammut: Wollmäuse aus dem Genlabor

Manchmal ist es schwierig. Ich bin kein Fan davon, mit Genen herumzudoktorn, aber ich bin Fan von Wollmammuts und fände schon gut, so einem wirklich mal zu begegnen. Ein erster Schritt dahin ist diese Wollmaus aus dem Genlabor, sagt das dafür verantwortliche Start-up aus Texas.

Es ist anscheinend gelungen, Mäusen bis zu sieben Gene einzupflanzen, die nicht nur bei den ausgestorbenen Riesen, sondern jetzt auch bei den Nagern für ein langes und dichtes Fell sorgen. Das ist ein wichtiger Fortschritt, um irgendwann tatsächlich eine Art von Wollhaarmammut wiederzuerschaffen.

So oder so: ich glaube, zeitlich wird es für mich mehr als knapp, einem Mammut gegenüber stehen zu können.

Neues aus der Robotik aus China: SpiRobs aus dem 3D-Drucker.

Unlike traditional robotic arms that rely on rigid grippers, SpiRobs can bend, wrap, and adjust its shape to interact with objects more naturally—much like an octopus or an elephant trunk. With a success rate of over 95%, it can handle everything from delicate eggs to objects 260 times its own weight. Its simple, motor-free design makes it cost-effective, durable, and versatile, with potential applications in healthcare, industrial automation, and even search-and-rescue.
