Tokio in den späten 1940ern optisch ins Jetzt geholt.

The sequence captures a moving perspective from an automobile, beginning with a reverse-angle view at the entrance of the U.S. Air Force Military Air Transport System passenger terminal. As the vehicle exits the base, it glides along a scenic road near a body of water under clear daylight. The shots evolve into dynamic three-quarter angles and forward-facing perspectives, offering a vivid portrayal of the surroundings and a glimpse into the era.

Japans kleinstes Hotelzimmer

Ein Doppelzimmer im Hotel Accela im Tokioter Stadtteil Minamisenju kostet nur ca. 36 US-Dollar pro Nacht. Es verfügt über Klimaanlage, kostenloses WLAN, ein großes öffentliches Bad, Waschmaschinen, Duschen, Verkaufsautomaten, einen kostenlosen Mineralwasserspender und kostenlosen Kaffee zum Frühstück. Es ist halt einfach nur sehr klein, bietet mit etwas Glück aber ganz fantastische Ausblicke über die Stadt.

Ein Reporter von SoraNews24 übernachtete bei einem Freund und fand das Zimmer etwas zu gemütlich. Hier Fotos aus dem Hotel.

„It’s certainly one of the smallest hotel rooms you’ll find in Tokyo, especially when you book a stay for two. What it lacks in space it makes up for in views, though, making it a very reasonable deal for lovers…and those wanting to test the bounds of their friendship.“

A Day in Tokyo in 1968

Ein Film, der etwaigen Touristen im Jahr 1968 Tokio schmackhaft machen wollte. Ich würde auch heute noch ganz gerne mal hinfahren.

The year 1968 was a special time for Japan. It was emerging as a modern country. The Tokyo Olympics had just been held a few years prior. Bullet trains, high-speed expressways, and color television broadcasts were spreading throughout the land. The year before saw the Toyota 2000GT and Mazda Cosmo Sport, Japan’s contemporary sports cars, debut. It must have been incredibly exciting.

Echtzeit-3D-Karte des Schienenverkehrs in Tokio

Wer mal eben live gucken mag, was auf den Schienen Tokios los ist, dem sei Mini Tokyo 3D empfohlen, wo sich die Schienenbewegungen in Echtzeit und per Live-Cams einsehen lassen. Ein digitaler Spiegel dessen, was dort gerade passiert und deshalb ziemlich cool.

„Mini Tokyo 3D is a real-time 3D map of public transportation in Tokyo. Trains in operation and airplanes that are arriving or departing are represented on a realistic 3D map with smooth animation. Aufnahmen aus dem „Tokyo Electronics District“ Akihabara von 1993

Ein kurzer Blick durch die nostalgische Bewegtbildbrille nach Tokio, konkreter nach Akihabara, dem „Electronics District“ der japanischen Hauptstadt, der das Herz des japanischen Elektronikhandels sein dürfte und schon damals eine breite Palette an elektronischen Produkten anbot, die in der Zeit als neu und habenswert galten.

Der Filmemacher David Hoffman besuchte Akihabara im Jahr 1993 und sammelte seine dort gemachten Eindrücke auf Video.

Back in 1993 I got the chance to walk and shoot Tokyo’s computer district–called Akihabara or Electric Town. it seemed to me at the time that they were pretty far ahead of us in terms of the variety of electronic devices, all of which are classics now, and probably highly collectible. I do hope that my subscribers and others enjoy seeing this old computer stuff–filmed before the World Wide Web existed.
