Submerse hat mit „Slow Waves“ letzte Woche ein durchwegs vorzügliches Album auf Project: Mooncircle abgeliefert, welches auch auf Kassette zu haben ist. John Lee Siebert hat für eine der Nummern dieses tolle Video gemacht.

The complexity of this electronic track, mixing both cold and warm sounds, inspired me to create something I call „electrorganic“ : a mix of blood and human tissues with electronic components like LEDs, screens and boards. The result is an intriguing video, where you don’t really know what’s happening, but you can imagine that some sort of electronic machine is powered by, or producing blood.
Movies and music videos from the 80s and 90s were also a source of inspiration for this video, there are some sequences that are very small tributes to audiovisual works I love like Shinya Tsukamoto’s Tetsuo, Coppola’s Dracula, Cameron’s Terminator, Carpenter’s The Thing, Cronenberg’s Videodrome, the music video Digging in the Dirt by Peter Gabriel…

2 KommentareThe simulation work originates from Andy Lomas‘ study titled ‚cellular forms‘, which uses digital simulation of a simplified biological model of morphogenesis, with three-dimensional structures generated out of interconnected particles to represent cells.
Each form starts with a initial spherical cluster of cells which is incrementally developed over time by adding iterative layers of complexity to the structure. The aim is to create forms emergently: exploring generic similarities between many different shapes in nature rather than emulating any particular organism, revealing universal archetypal forms that can come from growth-like processes rather than top-down externally engineered design.
Cell division is controlled by accumulated nutrient levels. When the level in a cell exceeds a given threshold the cell divides, and various parameters control how both the parent and daughter cells re-connect to their immediate neighbours. New nutrient can be created by photons in cells hit by incident light rays. Nutrient can also be allowed to flow to adjacent cells. The simulation process is repeated over thousands of iterations and millions of particles, with each of the final structures comprising over fifty million cells.

Ich bin mit Rudi gerade auf der Rückfahrt vom durchaus schönen Moxxom Festival. Wir hören unseren alten Hedo-Mix, den wir vor zwei Jahren bei ganz viel Sonnenschein aufgenommen haben und da fällt mir auf, wie sehr ich dieses Lied liebe.
3 KommentarePasst vielleicht jetzt gerade nicht so ganz zu den hier fast sommerlichen Bedingungen, aber ich mag die Nummer so sehr, dass das keine wirkliche Rolle spielt. Auch fängt das Video die Stimmung des außerordentlich schönen Tracks ganz wunderbar ein.

Seitdem ich Seeed vor Jahren mal in der Arena sah, waren wir beide eigentlich fertig miteinander. Das Konzert war alles andere als gut und musikalisch holte mich seitdem von ihnen auch nichts mehr auf den Dancefloor, aber das hier, dieses „Waiting“ würde mich genau dort hinziehen können. In einer lauen Sommernacht. Am Feuer. Mit einem Drink in der einen, und einem Sticky in der anderen. Gespielt auf dem Soundsystem des liebsten Dreadheads der Stadt.
Das Video fasst schöne Impressionen der Südamerika-Tour von Seeed zusammen, der Original-Riddim hat mehr als 50 Jahre auf dem Buckel. Liebe.
Und beim Offbeat-Piano immer schön die Knie absacken lassen – so wird man Teil der tanzenden Harmonie.
