Die Indecline Crew hat in der kalifornischen Mojave Wüste ein verlassenes Flugfeld des Militärs aufgestöbert, gesäubert und die 910 Meter lang und circa 10 Meter breite Landebahn lackiert. Macht um die 9000 Quadratmeter. Das ist mal ein fettes Piece. Womöglich das größte illegale der Welt. Klasse Aktion mit Kontext.
This Land Was Our Land—both literally, in the sense that acres of remote desert were used up and discarded by our government in order to improve our ability to drop bombs on people in far off lands (who constitute a threat just because they peddle a different set of ideals than us;) and also figuratively, as in we as a species are presently embroiled in the constantly accelerating process of using up and discarding this planet as a whole.
It was ours, and it easily could be ours again. The only thing that needs to change is that we take responsibility for it.

Im letzten Jahr hat der Street Art Künstler Katsu eine Graffiti-Drohne entwickelt und in einem Studio gezeigt. Mitte der Woche hat er das Teil nun beim Sprühen in der Öffentlichkeit gefilmt – und zwar am größten und meist gesehenen Billboards New York Citys.
The Calvin Klein billboard, one of New York City’s largest, sits at the busy intersection of Houston St and Lafayette St. The graffiti drone’s potential for troublemaking on an unprecedentedly grand scale is obvious. The billboard is absolutely gigantic, about six stories tall. It would have been almost impossible to tag Jenner’s face using the traditional methods. One could rappel off the top of the building or use a cherry picker, but neither option is exactly safe, or subtle, or quick enough that one could do it without cops on regular patrol spotting it. With the drone, by contrast, it took less than a minute. Still, the artist admitted, “It was a bit tense.” (Needless to say, the stunt was extremely illegal).

Wohl auch dafür, dass ein jeder die Graffitis an den Häuserwänden lesen kann, hat der Franzose Mathieu Tremblin Graffitis in Klarschrift übersetzt. Seine Arbeit “Tag Clouds” stammt bereits aus dem Jahre 2012.

4 KommentareAn der öffentlichen Wertschätzung von Graffiti hat sich bis heute so viel nicht verändert, am Style schon. Ich erinnere mich gerne an die 90er, in denen Crews wie GHS und RCB das Berliner Stadtbild prägten und mich Graffiti lieben lernen ließen.

Beim Pow! Wow! auf Hawaii treffen sich seit ein paar Jahren Street Art Künstler aus der ganzen Welt, um graue Wände lebendig zu machen. In diesem Jahr waren es über 100 davon. Hier die offizielle Zusammenfassung für 2015 in Form eines Videos. Love it!
